This prehistoric monument sits its 52 stones on Swinside Fell, behind Black Coombe. Along with the typical folklore about the stones being uncountable, another is that the fairies (and sometimes even the Devil) have cast enchantment on these stones, because they were being used to build a church by day, to sink every night into the ground and become unusable.
