Carne Beacon

Carne Beacon

One of the largest Bronze Age round barrows in England, Carne Beacon is said to house the remains of one of Cornwall's famous kings - Gerein.  In a 12th century manuscript a tale is told of a 6th century saint, Teilo, as the place where he administered the last rights for this great King.  He was wreathed and crowned with gold and silver, armored and plated in it as well and was given a grand ceremony.  The legend surrounding Gerein is similar to other buried warriors.  He will rise and reclaim his Kingship when the land is at great need.
